I posted this in another forum, but I want to see what kind of response I get here...

I have a large record collection (late 60's to late 80's, rock and blues, mostly), that I'd like to copy to CD for the sake of preserving the albums. All the records are in excellent condition, cleaned before each use and the jackets are in plastic covers. I hardly play them anymore now because the turntable is crap and I don't want to abuse them. I will get a new turntable though. Any suggestions on how to go about this? And, please respond in plain English, not techno babble. Thank you, thank you very much. :guitar :drums

lol...that's funny, a "record" means quite a different thing to the kids today..."like, why would anyone want to display their record?"

about the copying though, I take it there is some way you can connect the turntable (feed in?) to the sound card on the computer...one guy said through the amp, but I'm not fully understanding...may have to ask the Radio Shack guy (hope he knows what a record is, lol)

I'm hoping I can copy the songs to harddrive then burn to disc.

heres is a link that explains it I know nothing of the procedure but saw them talking about it on tecktv a while back

http://www.cyberwalker.net/columns/feb02/150202.html

EDIT: After reading the article yes you do need to run it from your amplifier

So basically you would use the audio out rca jacks on your amp, it should say on the back of the amp "audio out" and hook up one of them cables the article talks about and put in the "line in" on the back of your computer which is on the soundcard where your speakers hook up

Here's another option someone suggested to me although I haven't had time to check it out completely. It's Audiograbber, it will copy the music as a .wav file to the harddrive, and if you want, will convert it to MP3.

That's thanks to StarGehzer at TCM. :tank :tank
