This is my situation. I have a Matrox G400 32 meg AGP right now. My cad solids are getting to big for the Matrox to handle. Also there are compatibility issues with Mechanical Desktop.

Anyway. I bought the 3d Labs graphics card and had a problem installing it. Every time I tried to install it I got an error saying I didn’t have permission. I know what your thinking. I have full administrator rights on my system (NT 4.0 SP 6A).

Anyway after about 10 e mails back and forth to 3d labs It was determined that I have faulty card, and that they were going to send out a new one, and suggested that I get a bios upgrade before installing.

Anyway sorry about the long story, so my questions are.

Would a bios up grade solve my driver issues?

And next how do you install a bios, I have very little experience in this field. I may just end up taking it to the computer store I deal with and give them the 30 bucks to do it, if its to big of a job.

Cheers

PS Card should be here this week

Here's something that may be of help.

Updating the bios can cause problems booting. If you are not confident doing it, you may want to take it in. But here's a step by step procedure that may help.

Thanks for the link bromyaur.

When my card comes in I will try the install with out the bios upgrade. If it works then great, If not I will decide what to do. I’m not confident installing it myself so I may take it in. Not sure yet.
