I'm hoping someone can help me with this annoying little problem.

I have an HP deskjet 952C printer, and lately, when I print something, there is a squeaking sound as the printer head moves back and forth along the metal bar. The printer works very well in every other respect.

How can I eliminate this squeak. Any ideas?

Thanks! :)

if you can gain access to the metal bar, you could try to rub it a bit with a bar of face soap..that way you wont get lubricant anywhere other than on the slide and the soap should relieve the squeak... keep in mind that this is a temporary fix and you will be in the market for a new printer in the future. ;)

I would try a little mineral oil or even WD40, but spray it on a cloth or something and rub the bar with that. :)

I'm concerned that an oily lubricant will cause a sludgy build up.

Yes, but you don't slop it on..lol a very very thin coat... that's why I said put it on a rag to apply.

Someone suggested "a light oil, such as 3 in 1"...I've never heard of that stuff. Is it just like some sort of machine oil?

yes, that would work fine. Just don't dribble it on from the can...you can even put a drop on your finger to smear in on the rod. :D
