I am in the market to upgrade or whatever my computer
right now I am running Pentium111 Windows 98 se with 64.0mg of memory and 12.1 GB I have a cdrw but my wish would be to have a dvd but all depends on the money. We don't play a lot of boxed games
(pogo exception) but I am starting to learn how to do Photo and music..Not into it heavy just playing around. You should see the one case they got in there the one side is open and there are pretend fish in it ...Really cool.
There is a store near use called Bestbyte in which I bought this comp.
just two short years ago and I am hoovering around 5 kb left and this seems to make my comp run really slow and sluggish. You should see the one case they got in there the one side is open and there are pretend fish in it ...Really cool.
My hubby asked a guy at work to upgrade this for us and he just laughed and told us to buy a new computer.
Is this the only way to go? Could you please look at the link that I am including and advise me a way to go and what is best for my money.
I only have about $400.00 to work with.
My harddrive right now is a Asus or is that my motherboard.
WOOOOOW is me...What should we do.

When I go in there I want to act like I know what I am talking about, so any advice you give me I will put on a cheat sheet..
Thanks everyone.

Ah.. if it helps lulu... I too checked under my computer & didn't see a 500 or 600 .. had no idea what you were looking for till you posted the Mhz
I do see Mhz listed there... is it safe to assume it may not necessarily have been a '500' or '600' that she should have been looking for?
i.e. Mine is 864 Mhz

Lulu...I would say your computer is fine if you were happy with it's power for your needs. It sounds like you could get away with some upgrades (RAM especiallly) and a good cleanup and defragging. If you have very little space left on your harddrive, it will slow the computer down. Have you ever done a defrag. Do you know about that?

Mhz's
Alrighty..yes its probably best to look at getting somthing new.
You could up the memory, Hard drive space and install a DVD ROM but that would take care of your $400. You likely wouldn't notice a huge difference in performance.
I shop at bestbyte alot. their prices are pretty good.
I'd suggest you make do for now. Have some maintenance done on your PC to clean it up. get it running at its peak again.
Hold on to your $400. try to put aside some more say.....another 300-400 and then look at whats available.
I've been buying some systems from Bestbyte on an ongoing basis.
Prices vary on average around $700
These are generally going in to offices so they are pretty basic.
No DVD's or Fancy cases

I think you mean 5MB, (hope so..lol). Either way, you are too full. you absolutely have to leave more space than that for 'swap files'. You are at risk of crashing. Get rid of the junk...lolol

I wouldn't laugh and tell you to get a new one....it's not such a dud.
For $400.00 you can only upgrade. You're not going to get a computer for that. My second computer is very similar to yours and it's still quite competent for Pogo, other games and PhotoShop type programs. Sure it's not the fastest thing in town, but it's still a very good computer. I have upgraded my RAM and am about to put a new burner in it. It doesn't have DVD, but I don't have that in my new computer either.
My harddrive right now is a Asus or is that my motherboard.
