I am having some troubles with 2000 now. Installed a few months ago. Lately, I have been having trouble accessing the Internet. After cursing Rogers, and calling tech support, we discovered some problems with the O/S. In trying to access a few things (run>>winipcfg for example) I get an error message "The ordinal 1001 could not be located in the dynamic link library WSOCK32.DLL".

P.S. I can get the info by doing run>>cmd Then typing in "ipconfig", but that's not how I usually get it...lol

Also get similar errors for other .dll files when trying to access anything about the network card. (errors may exist for other things, but it was the network we were looking at).

Anyone have any suggestions as to the quickest fix for this? Can/should I do a reinstall of 2000 over top of this one? Is there a way to replace .dll files only?

The computer still seems to run anything non-Internet just fine (including accessing second computer via LAN).

Pleaseeeeee don't tell me I have to reformat and all that crap..pleaseeee

First thing to do try is removing IP
Ctrl Panel > Network Connections > double click on your connection > properties >
Remove Internet protocol (TCP)
Reboot

Now go back in there and reinstall it

Winipcfg is not supported by Win2000 btw

Reinstalled...entered info (have router bTW, set gateway)..rebooted and I have a connection, so now I'll put it through it's paces. :D

Might be WinPop thats giving you the messages
Ctrl Panel > Add/remove > Windows Setup > System Tools
At the bottom of the list there's something called Winpop. Make sure that its not installed (Unchecked)
