View Full Version : Upgrading video card
Okay here's the thing. One of our computers is a Dell L550r (PIII-550 mhz) and attached are the specs needed for this question. We would like to disable the onboard video and buy a new video card for it. What do you recommend, am I right to believe that it's a PCI video card, and what does it mean by 3/4 length? Does that mean a regular video card will not fit?

do you have your motherboard manual?
if so take a look and see if there is an agp slot
I think its easier to find video cards that use the agp slot, but then again what do I know, I'll tell ya what I know...............SQUAT

may have to be a PCI video, jumped past the onboard chipset ..
I see 1 empty alocation left.. according to those specs.
I dunno..try another monitor first. That Intel chipset is one of the better ones for sure.

I managed to update the drivers for the Intel video card and install Open GL drivers to play Quake so everyone is happy for the time being.
The only video card it will take is a PowerColor Radeon 9200 Low Profile AGP 8X 128MB DDR Video Card w/TV-Out, DVI & CRT Retail Powered by ATI but it is very difficult to find. Thanks for the replies :)

Good you got something going..
Where did you get the info about the card you mention??
It's AGP...your specs say PCI...
There are a lot of PCI types that match, but I don't see any at 128MB.

I went into the Dell support forums and one of the most asked questions was regarding updating the Intel card. Tech support recommended that card. The link you posted are for cards for recent models, our two Pent 4's have Nividia cards in them :)
