View Full Version : web cam?
I want to get a web cam for the restaurant.... I'm working in the back and I hear the door, I get out there and no one is there. This happens so much that I'm sick of running to the front for nothing (I put enough miles on a day there LOL ). any suggestions on the best kind? MY computer is at the back and if I can hook a camera up facing the door and have it running on my system.. I can glance at it and know if someone actually came in or just opened the door to peek in.

How about just a plain security camera setup Deb??....like the ones you see in banks. I'm not up on prices, but perhaps you could invest in just a basic setup. It might be useful in terms of security too should (God forbid) anyone rob the restaurant.
I have an alarm system here which is monitored ( I pay a monthly fee for that service) security isn't an issue for the camera aspect. I don't want to spend a lot, just save myself the aggravation of running to the front for no reason LOL Although I could use the exercise to lose this weight LOL :D

Deb, we have a Logitech Quickcam Pro http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=4&CONTENTID=5042&countryid=2&languageid=1
with a fairly long wire attached. It comes with software to do exactly what you want to do or you can just leave Netmeeting running and watch the little monitor in it. :)
I need more than a 'fairly long wire' though LOL I haven't measured but I'm guessing.....25 -30 ft??? I'm horrible with measurements and could be waaaay out. LOL
If I were you I'd head to a pawn shop. buy an old B/w TV and an old camcorder. then get yourself a nice long vid cable from cdn tire.
Can't imagine it costing too muc. Then down the road if security does become an issue....add a vcr :)
