Now still fixing sis's computer and have it at home today... I've been trying to resolve her shutdown issues. Her system is hanging at the 'windows is shutting down' splash screen. In safe mode I can shut down, so I'm suspecting video.
I go into msconfig and disable all
process config.sys file
process autoexec.bat file
greyed out
process system.ini file
process win.ini file
load startup group items
then one at a time I check these... windows shuts down fine with all unselected. Then fine with config.sys and autoexec.bat selected (one at a time) then hangs when system.ini is selected and also hangs when win.ini is selected. I do notice that the video changes to the standard video display (screen resolution is huge). I've uninstalled the video driver and reinstalled with no change.... I've gone thru all troubleshooting processes to no avail.
I installed this card and driver for her initially and there were no problems except she said her system hangs intermittenly after playing certain games such as grand theft auto (graphic intense). I just figured that the game itself provided the odd glitch.
Will I have to do a complete format of her hard drive and reinstall everyting fresh?
p.s. video card is GeForce4 MX440 and the only updated drivers I can find at the site is detonator drivers.
