for no reason at all.. :shifty: i had to format < kix MS >
i can't seem to get a net connection. anyone know how i do that? the wizard isn't working. i do have a router. do i have to connect the net straight to the computer, bypassing the router, just to first set up the net?

you may have to install the software your provider provided to get the initial connection, then connect the router.
and...no one ever has to "reformat for no reason"...:shifty: :p

first the registry corrupted. & as i say... i can understand this happening if i'd installed something or done anything to the computer. but i had not. so this is all for no reason. so i got that repaired & was able to back everything up (but forgot bookmarks & mail:shifty:). so then, of course, .... the errors start. until i couldn't turn on the computer anymore & was forced to format.

Format C:\
and don't download everything that 'looks' cool and then delete it :p :D
I have had to format my computers 2wice in my life.. both times were totally my fault for going places I shouldn't have for d/l'ing, resulting in viral infection.
Never has it been the result of my OS .. even back in Win98 days :)

I have only ever 'had to' reformat my computer once (also my fault WIN98) in almost 20 years and 6 or 7 computers. If I uninstall things or delete lots of photos etc, then I will defrag, but I don't find a need to reformat.
My son's laptop, tho...now there's a computer that could use a format. :rolleyes: :p

From someone who just formatted their computer 6 TIMES TODAY Including removing both HD's, switching them around, switching jumpers, messing with boot.ini file...lol
You will probably need to install the drivers for your network card.
Mine came on the disk that also has the motherboard drivers, since my network card is built into the motherboard. I wasn't able to connect to the net myself until I installed the network card driver.
<note to self, dont format when sick with flu (or something), shivering, chills and tired>
<wonders why computer isn't recoginizing my D drive>

hmmmm wonder if I have to do that with hubby's laptop, installed SP1 today for him and trouble indicates network card as the issue. Did SP1 change something with the network card? Wireless doesn't work either,,, can see the homenetwork like my computer but suddenly it didnt' see the router and all hell broke loose. :sad: like I said in my other post I'm tired and I'm going to bed and I'll work on this tomorrow after work. :sad:
