I'm getting up to 4 or 5 emails a day to only one of my rogers email addresses which has been disinfected and attachment deleted containing this worm/virus, it stops in yahoo before it even reaches me so I'm not worried but........ Anyone else noticing this happening with them? I've read some news accounts that this is a major hindrance right now with many users.

One in every 22 e-mails sent across the Internet is currently infected by the Sober-N worm, making this one of the biggest virus outbreaks of the year," Graham Cluley, Sophos' senior technology consultant, said in a statement. The worm tricked users into opening its e-mail attachment using various messages in English and German. "In particular, this worm appears to have caused problems by posing as an offer of free tickets for the soccer World Cup tournament in Germany next year," Cluley said. "Many people found the prospect of free tickets to the prestigious sporting event just too hard to resist."

Haven't had a single one! Checked the history on Norton and nothing is logged. System Checks out clean.

Maybe you got on a site infested with that virus, and is sending you these emails in an attempt to infest your system!

I saw a report of the virus on the news today. Virus makers have teamed up with spammers to spread it around. In Europe they were offering free tickets to teh World Cup... Open the attach and the virus sets your computer up as a server, replicates itself and sends from there. You'll not get infected if you don't open the attachment, but some people are suckers. If you think you stand a hope in hell of getting free tickets to the World Cup..you deserve it...lol  :p

well I never open attachments unless I know the sender and am expecting it.... and not many people I know send me attachments anyway. I just thought it was funny that only one email addy is receiving this and it's the newest one I created to replace the one I was getting spammed on. This email addy I never share out. I only use my yahoo addy now for out there!

I use Yahoo e-mail as a buffer for junk, only. My hotmail is for friends and jokes, reserve my ISP provided e-mail for work, and family. You may want to take a look at your Yahoo properties, and if you use the messenger, hide your online presence(requires opening the web-page to your profile) as well as use invisible mode, but also, hide your e-mail addy. Porn bots, as well as others, plague Yahoo. Hiding your e-mail addy from others is of the most importance.

thanks for your response nav. I know one person is reading my posts LOL :tongueout:That'd be incorrect. One responded.. I read it immediately after you posted :D

I was going to ask if there were particular subject lines to watch out for, for this virus... but decided not to.

Tx for the warning about it :)

Of interst. For those with webpages, this is especially useful. For those without, skip to the links at the bottom of the article for some useful tools on dealing with spam.

Your web site might be contributing in how much junk mail you receive, especially if you include an email address on your pages.

with the way rogers now sets up webpages the email address is part of the URL.... such an idiotic move on their part.... one reason I no longer use rogers webspaces. :(

used to be members.rogers.com..... not the actual email address name@rogers.com besides the URL is way too long to share out anyway...

TownBear

wasn't it members.rogers.com/EmailName ?

so everyone was members.rogers.com/TheirEmailAddress ?

deb

wasn't their email address per say but just the username, now with the parental controls available the email address could be disabled not deactivated... but showing the actual email address in the URL only invites spammers.

eg... Look at MC's site URL.

h*tp://ca.geocities.com/ghenwood@rogers.com/webpage.html

before it would have been

h*tp://members.rogers.com/ghenwood/html

TownBear

before it would have been

h*tp://members.rogers.com/ghenwood/htmland any spamer with a brain could figure out that all "ghenwood" needed was @rogers.com... so that's what i meant. the email address was in the URL. but i see what you mean with the @rogers.com added in.. dumb
